In the morning, visit Munnar which is surrounded by tea gardens, the atmosphere is fragrant with extensive tea and cardamom plantations. Tea estates are situated mostly on the inner slopes of an elevated basin-like plateau. It would be worthwhile to visit some of these tea gardens to witness the plucking of leaves by women who carry conical bamboo baskets on their back and strapped to their forehead by a cloth band. Today post breakfast depart by surface for Kumarakom (Approx. 5 hrs.). The scenic backwater area of Kumarakom lies, on the shore of the pleasant Vembanad Lake, 16 km away from Kottayam. Here an old rubber plantation around the lake has been developed into a bird sanctuary. A path goes through the swamp to the main nesting area, while the island in the middle of the lake can be reached by boat. Palm fringed narrow canals winding through the vast expanse of paddy fields, and the neat tiny hamlets lined up along either side of the canals are panoramic sights one can never forget. Not only do the backwaters of Kerala link the state together, they are an integral element in maintaining ecological balance and creating harmony with nature. Later visit Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary.

After breakfast check out from the hotel and transfer the jetty to embark for an overnight cruise of back waters on a converted Kettuvalam or traditional rice barge. Get a glimpse of life on water’s edge, this backwater journey through the narrow canals crossing exquisite villages of Kerala, embellished with lush green paddy fields, tall coconut grooves makes it a most spellbinding site. Then drive to Kovalam which is an internationally famous beach town in the state. On arrival at Kovalam check-in at the beach resort.
